Who are you?
I’m Executive Head of the Goddard Park Academy in Swindon, having been a Headteacher for 35 years. In 2010, I was National President of the National Association of Headteacher’s (NAHT)
How long have you been a Swindon fan?
I have been a Town fan since 1953 and was Mascot in every match from 1953-1964
Why did you join the STFC trust board ?
I felt that fans should have a voice and the Board was a way of this happening
What expertise do you bring to the Trust board?
I was Vice Chair and with Steve the Chair we created a mass membership campaign. This involved significant media engagement. I also started a Working Party on a Club Museum, and also linked the Club and Trust with local schools so as to bring in the next generation of fans. I also came up with the idea of purchasing the County Ground. Steve and I met with leading Councillors and Officers to begin this process. I worked on plans for a Roof over Stratton Bank and other ground developments. As an Hon member of the Swindon Town Disabled Fans group I encouraged the Club to improve its provision for these supporters. More should be done here.
What’s your vision for the football team on the pitch?
The team and Club has the potential to achieve what former rivals such as Brentford, Bournemouth and Southampton have accomplished. We need to carefully build on where we are. I watch many away games where we have become quite competitive. Now we need to make the County Ground the fortress it used to be.
What’s your proudest moment as a Swindon fan?
Winning the Football League Cup at Wembley in 1969 by beating one of the best teams in the country is the pinnacle. Our first promotion in 1963 was also very special. For a Club consistently in the top ten of all Clubs over the years for scoring goals is impressive.
Who has been your favourite ever Swindon player and Manager?
Without doubt I feel privileged to have watched Don Rogers throughout his career. I am sure that a couple of generations before me supporters said the same about Harold Fleming. As regards Managers I would say that Danny Williams, Bert Head, Lou Macari, and Ossie Ardiles each brought a special quality to the Town.
What’s your overall vision for Swindon Town football club?
Swindon Town is a West Country Club which has immense potential. Our crowds at this level demonstrate this. We need a twin track of investment both on and off the pitch. The County Ground should be developed into a 20-25,000 stadium whilst retaining its character. Children should be encouraged to attend live football. Delighted to see the Swindon Town’s Women’s Team now in the fold. Our ownership and openness is wonderful. The future is promising. Come and join in. C’mon the Town – C’mon you Reds
