Swindon Town vs Walsall: Match Preview

Swindon Town are back at SN1 on Tuesday evening for a re-arranged fixture against Mike Flynn Walsall side. Swindon will be looking to make it three wins in a row after convincing 3-0 wins over Scunthorpe United and Carlisle United.

Swindon Town travelled to Cumbria to take on a relegation threatened Carlisle United side under Keith Millen and came away with a convincing 3-0 away win. Harry McKirdy a former Carlisle player was the pantomime villain on his return to Cumbria. The Swindon attacker was instrumental in all three Swindon goals with a goal himself and further two assists. Taken off after sixty minutes to protect an ankle injury picked up in the first half applauded all four corners of Brunton Park.

Safe to say Harry Mckirdy enjoyed every moment of that, scoring against his former club. Celebrating all three goals in front of the home supporters. Burgers chucked at him, and water chucked at the players after Louis Barry scored his first goal of the club. All in an afternoon work.

Ben Garner confirmed in his pre-match press conference today that Dion Conroy has been training and should be available for selection. Jack Payne had done more training after his knee injury and could feature. If not could come back for the Salford game on Saturday afternoon.

Predicted line up vs Walsall

Wollacott, Hunt, O’Brien, Cooper, Tomlinson, Reed, Iandolo, Aguiar, McKirdy, Barry, Davison

Walsall are the visitors to the County Ground tomorrow evening for the re-arranged fixture from before Christmas which was postponed due to COVID19 cases in the Swindon squad. Walsall are in sixteenth position in the league two table with thirty-five points from thirty-one games.

Just a day after Valentine’s Day, Walsall made the announcement that Michael Flynn ex of Newport County would be taken over as the new manager after Matty Taylor was sacked after a poor run of form. Flynn has signed a deal until 2024.

On the pitch after a run of poor form, Walsall have won two on the spin. What is unique about this is that they have beaten both the top two sides in the division. Tranmere Rovers were beaten 1-0 on the 12th February. A week later away at the lawn against the league leaders Forest Green Rovers in Michael Flynn first game in charge, Walsall pick up a crucial 1-0 away win.

Before the back-to-back wins against top two in the division. The saddlers run of form to start 2022 was abysmal. Started the year with a 3-3 draw at home to Newport County. Then followed seven defeats on the spin which cast Matty Taylor his job. Walsall plummeted to twenty first in the league standings and were hovering just above the relegation zone. The two wins against Tranmere Rovers and Forest Green Rovers have elevated the Saddlers up into safety and seven points above Carlisle United who occupy the final relegation place in the League two standings.
