Harrogate Town vs Swindon Town: Match Preview

We are coming into the busy Easter schedule with two games over the Easter bank holiday, Swindon Town make the trip to Harrogate on Good Friday looking to bounce back after three disappointing results which has seen the club slip out of the play off contention.

Saturday last minute defeat at home to Newport County was a hammer blow to Swindon Town play-off aspirations. The game at the County Ground was meandering into a 0-0 draw as Newport County defence done a brilliant job shackling Swindon attack. Finn Azaz capitalised on a long ball from the Newport County defence. Found himself at an acute angle after ghosting past Mathieu Baudry and the on-rushing Jojo Wollacott, his effort was turned into his own net by Dion Conroy, cue bedlam in the away section off the Arkells stand.

That was a bitter pill to swallow, just one point picked up from a possible nine after the 2-1 home win over Sutton United. Two disappointing defeats away at Crawley and at home to Newport County, sandwiched in between a 0-0 draw away at Rochdale. One goal scored in the last three which was Josh Davison goal away at Crawley. Swindon Town poor form is coming at the wrong time of the season.

Ben Garner confirmed in his pre-match presser today that Jonny Williams has a rib injury but could be risked tomorrow or will be fit for Monday. Harry McKirdy potentially could be fit for Monday game against Richie Wellens Leyton Orient side.

Harrogate Town after a wonderful start to the season where in mid-late October they were as high as second in the League Two standings. Simon Weaver’s side has had a massive drop off in form in the last few months. Harrogate Town are now languishing in lower mid table in seventeenth and are one of four teams with forty-seven points from forty-one games. Carlisle United, Walsall and Rochdale are the three other teams locked on forty-seven points this season.

Harrogate Town form in the last six games has been extremely poor, just one win, one draw and four defeats. The one win was a 3-0 away win at Scunthorpe United. Who are sadly are staring relegation out of the EFL in the face. The one draw was a 1-1 home draw with Walsall on the 19th March, Callum Kavanagh salvaging a point for Simon Weaver side with a ninety third minute equaliser. The four defeats were a 2-0 away defeat to Tranmere Rovers, 3-0 home defeat to Leyton Orient.
